There are six geo-political zones in Nigeria of which all
the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory are situated. They are;
South West, South East, South South, North Central, North
West and North East.
1)
South West: Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Lagos
States.
2)
South East: Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi States.
3)
South South: Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and
Akwa Ibom States.
4)
North Central: Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, Kogi, Plateau
States and the Federal Capital Territory.
5)
North West: Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano
and Jigawa States.
6)
North East: Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi and
Taraba States.
NIGERIA ORIGIN AS A STATE RULED BY COLONIAL MASTERS.
Nigeria as a state was ruled by colonial masters between 1914 (year of amalgamation) and 1960 (year of independence). The British were the colonial masters and governed the Northern and Southern Protectorates. In 1914, Sir Fredrick Lugard amalgamated the two Protectorates to form a country now known as Nigeria. Below are the British Governor Generals from 1914 to 1960.
