NIGERIA ORIGIN AS A STATE RULED BY COLONIAL MASTERS.

Nigeria as a state was ruled by colonial masters between 1914 (year of amalgamation) and 1960 (year of independence). The British were the colonial masters and governed the Northern and Southern Protectorates. In 1914, Sir Fredrick Lugard amalgamated the two Protectorates to form a country now known as Nigeria. Below are the British Governor Generals from 1914 to 1960.
Sir Frederick Lugard       1914-1919
Sir Hugh Clifford             1919-1925
Sir Creamer Thomson      1925-1931
Sir Donald Cameron        1931-1935
Sir Bernard Bodillon       1935-1943
Sir Arthur Richards         1943-1948
